Levine Ponders Council Run in District 7
Upper Manhattan Democratic District Leader Mark Levine is considering a run for City Council in District 7, the seat now held by Robert Jackson.
Jackson will be termed-out next year, and state Assembly Member Herman "Denny" Farrell reportedly has his sights on the seat. Could Levine spoil Farrell's transition from Albany to City Hall?
Here's an e-mail released by Levine earlier this week:
Friends,
I've worked with many of you over the years to improve our schools, preserve affordable housing, advocate for better mass transit, elect progressive Democrats, and much more. I'm exploring a possible 2009 candidacy for City Council in order to fight for our community's interests on these and many other fronts. And I could use your help.
Please join me on Thursday, June 5th, at a special fundraiser in support of my plans for 2009. Details are attached. Here are the highlights:
WHEN: Thurs., June 5, 7:00 pm
WHERE: Castle Village common room (110 Cabrini Blvd. - 1 block north of 181st St.)
RSVP: laura@theadvancegroup.com or (646) 761-2648Thank you in advance for helping me continue to be an advocate for the progressive values of Upper Manhattan.
In addition to his post as Democratic District Leader, Levine is Executive Director of the Center for After School Excellence, and chairs the Community Board 12 Transportation Committee.
This could be interesting.
